Adlib

Adlib by BouSounds (coming April 2026)
Adlib
Adlib is a vocal effects plugin developed for BoSound, designed specifically for rap vocals and adlibs. The plugin is built around a focused vocal processing chain rather than a large modular environment, combining EQ, convolution based device coloration, saturation, de-essing, compression, doubling, auto gain, and limiting into a single streamlined workflow.
The main concept behind Adlib is fast access to recognizable vocal character. Instead of asking the user to build a full chain from scratch, the plugin presents a set of device inspired modes such as cellular, megaphone, radio, and underwater, then adapts multiple parts of the processing chain around that chosen sound. This gives the plugin a more intentional identity than a generic vocal strip, with each mode shaping the tonal profile, convolution response, and dynamic settings together.
Main Features
- Vocal effects processor built specifically for rap vocals and adlibs
- Device style vocal modes including cellular, megaphone, radio, and underwater
- Convolution based coloration using dedicated IRs for each vocal character
- Integrated pre EQ and post EQ stages for tone shaping before and after the main effect chain
- Saturation stage with selectable processing modes and oversampling support
- Dedicated de esser and compressor for vocal control and presence
- Stereo doubler for width and adlib enhancement
- Master dry wet control for blending the full chain against the original vocal
- Custom IR carousel interface for browsing vocal device styles visually
Processing Approach
Adlib is built like a compact vocal chain with each stage serving a specific role.
Pre EQ
Shapes the vocal before the heavier character processing begins, helping frame the tonal profile for each device mode.
Convolution
Uses impulse responses to create the core device illusion, including filtered and narrowband styles such as cellular, megaphone, radio, and underwater.
Post EQ
Refines the result after convolution and helps push the final vocal tone further toward the selected device character.
Saturation
Adds extra grit, density, and harmonic color, with oversampling support used to keep the drive stage cleaner at higher settings.
De-esser and compressor
Keep the vocal controlled and present, especially important for aggressive spoken or rap driven material.
Doubler
Adds stereo width, detune based spread, and a more produced adlib style finish.
Auto gain and limiter
Help maintain a more stable output level after the chain has added strong tonal and dynamic changes.
User Experience
Adlib is designed to feel immediate. The interface centers around a visual device selector rather than a technical routing view, making it easier to approach as a creative effect. Once a mode is chosen, the rest of the chain follows that direction with matching tonal and dynamic settings, so users can move quickly between recognizable vocal characters without rebuilding the processor each time.
The plugin also includes bypassable sections, preset support, and a global mix control, which makes it flexible enough to use either as a full effect chain or as a source of one specific vocal texture layered into a larger production.
Summary
Adlib is a focused vocal processor that balances character design and usability. The strength of the project is not sheer complexity, but how deliberately the chain is tuned around a small set of clear vocal identities. It combines convolution, tonal shaping, saturation, dynamic control, and widening into a single purpose built tool for stylized rap vocal treatment.
